Central Minnesota Music School Policies

  1. Registration: When you have registered and submitted payment, your teacher will be notified by the business office. Teachers cannot schedule your lessons until they have received confirmation of your registration. The earlier you register, the more likely you are to have your lesson at the time and day you desire.  By registering, you are agreeing to all CMMS policies.
  2. Missed Lessons: You have contracted for a block of time with a professional teacher. Any absence is a loss of time for the teacher.

Student Cancellations: Make-up lessons for lessons missed/canceled by the student are for              illness and emergency only. Each teacher has his or her own make-up policies; please refer to your  teacher's studio policies for make-up procedures.  Teachers are only required to make up 2 lessons in cases of student illness/emergency.  Teachers are not required to make up lessons if advance notice by the student is not given.

Teacher Cancellations: Teachers are allowed one missed lesson, for illness or emergency only, per student per year.  This lesson will not be made up.  The teacher is responsible for making up any lessons he/she misses thereafter.

  1.  CMMS Cancellations: The decision to close CMMS is determined by safety conditions or if SCSU cancels classes due to extreme weather. As it is difficult to reschedule lessons or classes due to a school closing, the school is committed to remaining open whenever possible. If you are wondering about a school closure, call 320-255-0318 for a recorded message in the business office.  As always, use your own judgment in making a final decision regarding severe weather.
  2. Dropping Lessons:  One month’s written notice is required when dropping lessons.  The teacher must sign the drop form and the student is responsible for turning it into the office no later than one month before the last lesson day.  A refund for remaining lessons will be given ONLY when these procedures are followed.
  3. Instructor Information: Changes in instructor are usually not made once the year of study has begun. Should the instructor, student, and family mutually decide that a change is necessary and in the best interest of the student, the instructors and the business office must be informed in writing before the change is made.
  4. Financial Aid:  Financial Aid is awarded on the basis of financial need and may cover up to 50% of the cost of lessons.  All applicants must reapply every year.  Financial aid applications and more information can be obtained from the business office.  The program is dependent on donations from individuals and grantors, and is limited by the funds thereof.  Applications will be considered based on need, in the order they are received, and are limited by the funds available.
  5. Tax Credit Information: If you would like more information about tax credit/deductions please refer to www.taxes.state.mn.us.  If you are eligible and would like a receipt of tuition for the calendar year, please contact the business office in January. You will not receive a receipt unless you request it and it will be sent in January for the previous calendar year.
  6. Recitals, Musicales & other CMMS events: Students are not required to attend school recitals and events (please check individual teacher policies for individual studio expectations).  CMMS does believe, however, that studio musicales, recitals, and CMMS recitals and events are an important part of every student's musical education. These events give students an opportunity to perform for others and listen to other students from the various studios. These opportunities are unique to a school environment. All of our teachers are dedicated to giving their students opportunities fitting for them at their stage of musical development.  If you haven't heard of any events, musicales, etc...please ask your teacher what they are planning or what they would suggest for you to attend.
  7. Safety: The safety and security of your children while on CMMS premises is of extreme importance to our Board of Directors and staff.  Due to safety and legal ramifications, CMMS adopted a policy (Nov. 1997) asking that all parents make secure arrangements for getting students to and from lessons at CMMS, located on the third floor of St. Mary's School. Along with a positive and rewarding musical experience, CMMS is committed to the responsibility of providing a safe environment for your children.
  8. Late fees:  There is a 10-day grace period, during which time no late fee will be assessed.   Payments made 10 days after a due date will be assessed a $10 late fee.  Any payment not received within 20 days of the due date will require the teacher to discontinue lessons until further payment is received.
